About SecPop

The use of a site file allows MACCS to better estimate consequence results in a site region. The use of a site file is an alternative to the MACCS “uniform” site approach that uses a spatially uniform distribution of population and economic data for the region. Neither approach is necessary for users that only use MACCS to calculate atmospheric transport results. Because SecPop uses U.S. Census data, the code currently only supports simulations of U.S. locations. For this reason, SecPop is not automatically provided to CSARP members. If CSARP members understand and would like access regardless, the NRC can provide SecPop to those that make a request.
